InDenverTimes.com, the new online venture launched by former staffers of the Rocky Mountain News, has added a comics section.
The news site added 39 Creators Syndicate comics, including ?Archie,? ?The Wizard of Id,? ?Barn,? ?Cafe Con Leche,? ?Zach Hill,? ?B.C.,? ?State of the Union,? ?Andy Capp,? ?Girls and Sports? and ?Wee Pals,? among others.
InDenvertimes.com is using Creators’ “RevUp” model, which allows papers to get the syndicate’s comics for free in exchange for a skyscraper ad on the newspaper?s Web pages. Creators keeps the revenue from the skyscraper ad, and the template provides room for a banner ad on the page — which the newspaper can sell and keep that revenue.
“Rev-Up is catching like wildfire,” Margo Sugrue, Creators’ national sales director, told E&P. “We only launched it two to three months ago and we already have over 200 sites in development, about 40 of which are live. Most have started with comics, and then are adding the other sections.”
The comics were added ?in response to overwhelming reader requests,? a post at INDenverTimes.com stated.
