India’s Economic Times reported that Bangalore-based digital publisher EC Media International last week launched its Wink multi-function e-reader that supports 15 languages and offers more than 200,000 titles.
Via www.thewinkstore.com, Wink offers one-stop access to e-books, newspapers, magazines and selected articles, as well as Wink Wire for the latest news — a result of an alliance with IANS, Indian’s largest independent news service.
Many titles were acquired from international aggregators, giving Indians access to books not available in the country. While primarily an e-reader, Wink can be used to listen to music, check e-mail or play games.
Relying on E-Ink grayscale display technology, Wink offers portability, strain-free reading even in bright sunlight and long battery life.
Explaining how the e-reader works, officials said a user can access the online store from the web or through the catalogue present on the gadget, intuitively designed for easy preview of content, downloads and a secure payment gateway.
