Irv Kupcinet, Chicago Columnist, Dies at 91

(AP) Irv Kupcinet has died at 91.

The gossip column Kupcinet wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times and its predecessor for more than 60 years brought the city the inside scoop on celebrities, presidents and foreign officials. It was called “Kup’s Column” — and at one point was syndicated in more than 100 papers.

He also hosted an award-winning weekly TV talk show for 27 years.

The head of the Museum of Broadcast Communications says Kupcinet was “probably the most significant media personality” in Chicago’s history.

Kupcinet was hospitalized yesterday after developing pneumonia.
