John A. (Jack) Williams has been named to the newly created position of President of Gannett Digital, the company announced today. Williams will oversee all Internet and digital initiatives for the company’s domestic operations.
“This appointment will allow Gannett to move forward on multiple fronts in the digital space, particularly to develop innovative approaches to serving our customers,” Craig A. Dubow, president and CEO of Gannett, said in a statement. “Jack is highly qualified for this position and uniquely capable of inaugurating this approach for Gannett, given his experience running the Newspaper Division’s Internet operations and overseeing the company’s various partnerships in online businesses including CareerBuilder and Topix.net.”
Williams, whose appointment is effective immediately, becomes a member of the Gannett Management Committee.
Williams joined Gannett in 1995 as vp of business development for the company’s newspaper division and has served as senior vice president/Diversified Business and Development for the Newspaper Division since April 2003. In addition to oversight of Internet operations and various partnerships, Williams has been responsible for the Army Times Publishing Co., Nursing Spectrum, and Gannett Media Technologies.
Previously, Williams was executive vp of The Seattle Times Co. and worked for The McClatchy Company as the general manager of the Modesto Bee in Modesto, Calif.
