A 20-year newspaper industry veteran is set to take over as editor of the Jacksonville Journal-Courier later this month.

David C.L. Bauer most recently worked as assistant metro editor at the 200,000-circulation Florida Times-Union. He replaces Ted Roth at the Journal-Courier on May 18.

Roth announced in February he will step down after holding the post for 13 years.

Bauer spent seven years at the Times-Union and worked as an editorial page editor and reporter at newspapers in Ohio and Kentucky.

Bauer also was an adjunct instructor of journalism at Western Kentucky University for three years.

Bauer describes himself as a “computer geek” and says he plans to expand news offerings on the newspaper’s Internet Web site.
