Media consultant and blogger Jeff Jarvis has been named director of the new media program and associate professor at the Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York, which is set to launch in 2006.
The 51-year-old Jarvis, an oft-quoted proponent of new forms of online journalism and the voice behind the popular Buzz Machine blog, has been developing the new media curriculum for CUNY’s journalism program since last year.
Jarvis is the founder and managing editor of Entertainment Weekly, and has worked for several newspapers. His involvement with online journalism began in 1994. Up until June, Jarvis served as president and creative director of Advance.net, part of the Newhouse publishing company, where he helped develop many of the company’s newspaper sites.
The New York Times wrote about Jarvis’s new job Monday, and Jarvis blogs about his new job here.
