John J. Martin, 50, has been appointed vice president of advertising at the Sun-Times Media Group.
Martin most recently served as vice president and general manager of WBBM-FM in Chicago, a division of CBS Radio. While he was there he oversaw a team of 70 and launched several major sales and marketing initiatives. Prior to that, he founded Converge Media, which helped broadcasters with the integration of on-air and Web-based assets.
Martin also spent 11 years with Clear Channel Radio. He was named president of Clear Channel’s Web Services Group, where he was responsible for developing Internet strategies for the company’s 1,200 radio station Web sites.
“John J. Martin has a demonstrated history of leading successful advertising and sales organizations,” said Cyrus F. Freidheim Jr., CEO of the Sun-Times Media Group, in a statement. “He will play a pivotal role in helping advertisers understand the value of our great product.”
