Reilly’s Antitrust Suit To Begin May 1
A federal judge set May 1 as the opening date for Clint Reilly’s suit to block the Hearst Corp. from buying the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Examiner reports today.
The judge set the date after Hearst Corp. attorneys proposed skipping a hearing scheduled for this month on Reilly’s request for a preliminary injunction blocking the sale. That process would have delayed the trial. Both Reilly and the Chronicle’s owners agreed to the new trial date.
Reilly, a former mayoral candidate, claims in his suit that the Examiner will not survive, and that the Hearst-owned Chronicle will be the only major daily left in San Francisco, and thus, a monopoly.
