Harris Enterprises, Inc., has sold the Parsons Sun and Chanute Tribune to Family Media, Inc., the companies announced Tuesday.
The sale to the Miami, Okla.,-based Family Media, was effective Monday.
Jerry R. Turner, president of Family Media, will be publisher of both newspapers, replacing Darren Werth, who will take a position at the Hutchinson News.
“We wish the employees and communities well under the new ownership,” said Bruce Buchanan, president of Harris. “We are confident they are in good hands.”
Turner started Family Media in 1996 and has more than 27 years of newspaper experience including that of editor, advertising director and publisher of weekly and daily newspapers. Family Media owns non-dailies in Mississippi, Illinois and Florida as well as two newspaper trade magazines and a television station.
Harris, based in Hutchinson, has owned the Chanute Tribune since 1927 and the Parsons Sun since 1982. The Tribune publishes Tuesday through Friday afternoons and Saturday morning. The Sun publishes Monday through Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.
Harris Enterprises also owns the daily Hutchinson News, five other newspapers in Kansas and Iowa, two shopper publications and a marketing company.
