King Features Weekly Service (KFWS) is starting an all-puzzles/games package this Monday.
“MindGym” contains more than 30 crosswords, other word puzzles, number puzzles (including “Sudoku”-style offerings), mazes, trivia quizzes, kids’ games, and Spanish-language puzzles. It’s available to community papers (no dailies) at a cost of $15 a week.
“We know from our 20 years of marketing features to weekly newspapers that puzzles are highly popular with readers of all ages, and think the market is ripe for [this] package,” KFWS General Manager David Cohea told E&P.
He added that “a driving idea” behind “MindGym” is research indicating that games and puzzles help keep minds healthy. In a recent National Institute on Aging study, adults who listened regularly to the radio, read newspapers, played puzzle games, and visited museums over a four-year period cut the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease by 47%.
Cohea said the KFWS package shares some games, puzzles, and trivia quizzes with “MindGym,” but the new service offers 23 additional features.
KFWS distributes more than 75 features to 1,300-plus weekly, monthly, college, and small-daily customers.
