Knight Ridder newspapers will sponsor 30 Dow Jones Newspaper Fund copy editing interns this year. San Jose, Calif.-based Knight Ridder said a $48,600 grant would cover the program for 27 interns, while individual papers would cover the other three.
The Dow Jones Newspaper Fund is a nonprofit organization that supports journalism students.
Last year, Knight Ridder sponsored 25 interns in the partnership in the program. The company’s vice president for news, Jerry Ceppos, said that recruiting and training good copy editors is a top priority for the chain.
Participating students are given two weeks of training, followed by paid internships at newspapers.
