Dave Kotok has been promoted to managing editor at The Omaha World-Herald, the paper announced Wednesday.

Kotok succeeds Mike Reilly, who became executive editor of the paper in December of 2007. “Dave is becoming our managing editor today because of his exceptional news judgment, his judgment overall and his dedication to our profession,” said Reilly in a statement.

Kotok arrived at The World-Herald in 1980 as a reporter. In 1986, he became The World-Herald’s chief political reporter, a position he held until 2003. According to The World-Herald press release, Kotok has “covered 10 national party conventions and has interviewed every president since Gerald Ford.” His last position before his promotion was as team leader of urban issues and city hall reporting staff.

Prior to arriving in Omaha, Kotok had worked at the Arkansas Democrat (now the Democrat-Gazette) of Little Rock, Ark., and the Lincoln Journal Star of Lincoln, Neb., as well as taught journalism at Kearney State College (now the University of Nebraska at Kearney).
