The Daily News of Los Angeles completed installation of a Goss Magnapak packaging system ahead of schedule and in time to accommodate high insert volumes during last year’s holiday season.
Based in Valencia, Calif., and distributed throughout the San Fernando Valley, the 169,370-circulation (195, 158 Sunday) Daily News uses its 18-station shaftless inserter for large Sunday packages and for daily production, segmenting insert advertising for as many as 130 ZIP Codes.
The machine from Goss International, Bolingbrook, Ill., arrived November 1, was running on the 13th, and in production the following week, Packaging Manager Brian Dougherty said in a statement, adding that the Magnapak was selected for speed, reliability, and automated zoning.
Goss Newspaper Postpress Systems Director Peter Tassinari attributed the success to planning, coordination, and close work with the customer, and “a lot of preparation prior to shipment.”
