‘It’s All Pure Rumor,’ Wolinsky Says
A top editor at the Los Angeles Times is denying rumors newsroom layoffs are pending at the Southern California daily.
Deputy Managing Editor Leo Wolinsky told E&P that while the Times is doing some nonpersonnel-related “belt tightening” in the economic downturn, layoffs are not in the immediate future.
“It’s all pure rumor,” Wolinsky said. “Things can change in this business pretty fast, but there’s really nothing pending like that now … I don’t know about any layoffs ready to hit this place.”
Wolinsky added that the Times is remaking its news sections to increase news space in its “A” section.
