(AP) The sports editor at the Lahontan Valley News & Fallon Eagle Standard has been named the new editor of the northern Nevada newspaper.

Publisher Keven Todd says Steve Ranson will replace Editor Josh Johnson, who has accepted a position at a newspaper in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He will assume his new role on March 17.

Ranson became the sports editor four years ago after working the previous 17 years as a part-time sports writer for the newspaper, which is owned by the Swift Newspapers group based in Reno.

Ranson is a former educator who was named Churchill County Teacher of the Year in 1995. He has worked as a producer, newscaster and sports anchor at a Reno television station, assistant public information officer for the Wyoming Fish and Game Department and as a sports and feature writer at the Wells Progress in Wells, Nevada.

He has served in the Nevada Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve for 27 years, working in a variety of journalistic and public affairs positions in the United States and Panama.
