Lakeway Publishers Inc. has agreed to buy Northern Neck Newspaper Group for an undisclosed sum. Crib, Greene & Associates brokered the transaction.
Northern Neck Newspaper publishes four papers in Virginia: Northern Neck News, Westmoreland News, The Caroline Press, and Northumberland Echo.
Mike Diederich, president and publisher of the family-owned company, said in a statement that he sold to Lakeway due to estate issues. “Since the untimely passing of my father, J.W. ‘Bill’ Diederich, in March of last year his estate has been held open and this action will facilitate its settlement.”
W.B. Trimble will serve as vice president and publisher of the four titles.
“I am passionate about community journalism and look forward to working with the staff and readers to create the best local newspapers possible,” Trimble said in a statement.
Lakeway of Morristown, Tenn., owns the daily Citizen Tribune in Morristown, 20 community newspapers, specialty magazines and shoppers.
R. Jack Fishman, president of Lakeway, said in a statement: “We stress for each of our newspapers to be independent in reporting the news and activities of their communities.”
