Lancaster Management Buys DeQueen (Ark.) Daily Citizen

Gadsden, Ala.-based Lancaster Management has acquired the DeQueen (Ark.) Daily Citizen and the weekly DeQueen Bee, it was announced Tuesday.

The papers were sold by the family of Ray Kimbell, who died in 1999. His daughter, Anita Marshall, became publisher of the two papers, and died two years ago. Her daughter, Kay Floyd, became manager of the papers.

Terms of the transaction were not released. Dallas-based Rickenbacher Media assisted the selling family in the transaction.

The weekly DeQueen Bee was founded 109 years ago; the DeQueen Daily Citizen 74 years ago.

Lancaster Management owns the nearby Mena Star, and publishes three other Arkansas papers: the Crossett Ashley News Observer; the Waldron Citizen; and the Waldron News.

Lancaster also owns papers in Mississippi, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Kentucky, Georgia, Iowa, and Virginia.
