Lee Enterprises reported today that total operating revenue for the month of January grew 7.7% compared to the same time last year, excluding the effects of acquisitions and divestitures. Total advertising revenue increased 9.4%, a result of improved sales and an additional Sunday for the period.

Retail advertising grew 8.2%. Classified advertising rose 8.4%, with employment up 32.3% and real estate up 17.7%. Auto declined 3.9%. National advertising revenue advanced 15.9%.

Niche-publication revenue grew 13.3%, and online advertising revenue increased 39.3%.

Circulation revenue increased 2.7%, also reflecting the additional Sunday this year.
