If the Tribune Co. helps bring back Life magazine as a weekend newspaper supplement, Parade could face some tough questions.
All of Tribune’s 11 dailies except the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale carry Parade, which generally seeks exclusivity in its contracts with its carrier papers.
Rival USA Weekend has no such policy.
Time Inc. spokesman Peter Costiglio confirmed a Chicago Tribune report last week that Time, which closed Life in 2000, is “exploring the level of interest and accessibility” with Tribune and other newspaper publishers. But one Trib publisher who saw a prototype of the proposed supplement said the Life brand’s “attraction to a younger audience is something Tribune publishers would immediately question.”
