Phil Frank is ending his long-running “Farley” comic this Friday, reported Daryl Cagle and Tom Spurgeon today on their cartoon blogs blog and Comics Reporter.

The strip started as the syndicated “Travels With Farley” in 1975 before turning into a local San Francisco Chronicle comic in the mid-1980s. Now, one of the few remaining local daily strips is “Denver Square” by Ed Stein of the Rocky Mountain News, for which Stein also does editorial cartoons syndicated by United Media.

Frank and Corey Randolph continue to co-create “The Elderberries” comic for Universal Press Syndicate.
