John Futch, executive city editor of the Long Beach (Calif.) Press-Telegram, is leaving the newspaper after three decades.
A Gallipolis, Ohio, native, Futch has enjoyed a career that included a stint as a sportswriter and a sports editor at the Athens (Ga.) Daily News. He also served as executive sports editor of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
In the early 1980s he joined the Press-Telegram as regional editor, and served in a variety of newsroom roles before leaving the paper briefly in 1995 to work for the Boca Raton (Fla.) News, where he was later named executive editor. When that paper was sold, he returned to Long Beach.
