Long-Serving Deputy Julia Turner Takes the Reins at Slate

Continuity is the theme of editorial at Slate,” Gawker founder Nick Denton told Capital at a party feting the online magazine’s new editor in chief, Julia Turner, on Tuesday night.

Turner said as much herself in a statement published on Slate shortly after David Plotz announced he would be stepping down from the role: “How will the Turner Slate differ from Plotz’s? Staff can anticipate that I’ll probably send fewer emails in ALL CAPS … Readers shouldn’t notice much at first: David and I have worked so closely together, so harmoniously and for so long, that the magazine as it is reflects much of my thinking.
