Peggy Bellows, managing editor of the Richmond (Va.) Times-Dispatch, has been named managing editor of parent company Media General Inc.’s consolidated editing center that will serve its three biggest newspapers.

Bellows’ new duties begin July 6, at which time Times-Dispatch Executive Editor Glenn Proctor will assume oversight of the paper’s news operation.

Richmond-based Media General announced in April its plans to consolidate the copyediting and page-design operations for the Times-Dispatch, The Tampa (Fla.) Tribune and the Winston-Salem (N.C.) Journal. The editing center, which will have two groups — one in Richmond and one in Tampa — is expected to begin operating by December.

Bellows, 54, was editor of The Forum in Fargo, N.D., prior to joining the Times-Dispatch. She has been its managing editor for three years.
