Mac Tully Appointed President, Publisher of ‘Kansas City Star’

Mac Tully has been appointed president and publisher of The Kansas City (Mo.) Star, effective Jan. 1.

Tully, 48, has served since January as vice president of operations for the San Jose, Calif.-based Knight Ridder Inc., overseeing its 17 small and mid-sized newspapers.

In addition, he served as president and publisher of the Bradenton Herald in Florida from 1999 to 2004, served as publisher of the Arlington (Texas) Star-Telegram, and was senior vice president of advertising at the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram.

Tully started his newspaper career at the Kansas City Star, where he was special sections retail account executive, zone manager, and retail advertising manager.

He succeeds Arthur S. Brisbane, who was named a senior vice president at Knight Ridder on Nov. 8.
