‘Maintaining’ Comic Stars a Biracial High Schooler

By: E&P Staff

“Maintaining” will be introduced this May by Universal Press Syndicate.

The comic is by Nashville-based Nate Creekmore, 24, who won the Scripps Howard Foundation’s Charles M. Schulz Award in 2003 and 2004 as well as the Associated College Press’ College Cartoonist of the Year honor in 2005.

“Maintaining” was originally published in The Babbler newspaper at Nashville’s Lipscomb University, where Creekmore earned a B.A. in graphic design. The strip features a biracial high-school sophomore named Marcus and various other characters.

The Nebraska-born Creekmore — see his Web site here — is biracial himself.
