The Gulf Times in Doha, Qatar, has reported that Gulf Publishing & Printing Co., publisher of Gulf Times and Arrayah, has contracted with MAN Roland for a Cromoman press.

MAN Roland Deputy Vice President for Sales Mike Ziegler told the Times that the sale will be the first web press his company supplies to a customer in Qatar. The Cromoman will enable the newspapers to run a minimum of 52 pages, with up to 40 in full color.

Ziegler said the press will print 50,000 copies an hour, but that with a slightly different configuration, it could print approximately 70,000 copies per hour. Also used for commercial products, Cromoman presses already print newspapers in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.

To be delivered in the middle of 2007 and installed over four months, the Qatar site will feature an automatic control room with a telecommunications link to MAN in Germany, where MAN engineers will be able to deal with an emergency without traveling to Doha.
