Many Comics Pay Tribute to ‘Dick Tracy’ Today

Cartoonists from various syndicates paid tribute to “Dick Tracy” today as the detective strip reached its 75th anniversary.

The tributes appeared in comics such as “Alley Oop,” “Beetle Bailey,” “Brewster Rockit: Space Guy!,” “Dog Eat Doug,” “Frazz,” “Gasoline Alley,” “Gil Thorp,” “Loose Parts,” “Nest Heads,” “Ripley’s Believe It or Not!,” “Rubes,” “Shoe,” and “The Wizard of Id,” according to a list compiled by Alan Gardner for his blog.

Also, “Dick Tracy” itself mentioned the anniversary today. The strip included a drawing of Chester Gould, who began his famous comic on Oct. 4, 1931.

“Dick Tracy” is now written and drawn by Dick Locher of Tribune Media Services.
