Nearly 200 newspapers have signed up so far to publish “Calvin and Hobbes” reruns starting Sept. 4, according to Universal Press Syndicate.
The reruns (E&P Online, May 20) will extend for 17 weeks, until Dec. 31. They’re being offered to mark the Oct. 4 publication of “The Complete Calvin and Hobbes” — a three-volume, 23-pound hardcover from Andrew McMeel Publishing that includes 3,160 strips, six new art panels by Bill Watterson for the front and back covers, and an introduction by Watterson.
Universal was syndicating “Calvin and Hobbes” to more than 2,400 newspapers when Watterson retired the comic at the beginning of 1996.
