The new “Diminished Capacity” movie includes Matthew Broderick as a newspaper-syndicate editor.
According to reviews of the film, Broderick’s character has been “demoted” to proofreading cartoons because of a brain injury — a scenario many cartoonists might find insulting.
The movie also stars Alan Alda and Virginia Madsen.
One of the few other recent instances of a syndicate exec as a film character was when John Newcombe played a syndicate salesperson in 2001’s “Best Man in Grass Creek.”
Newcombe — who also directed, co-wrote, and co-produced that movie — works in comic development for Creators Syndicate and collaborates with John Deering on the “Zack Hill” comic distributed by Creators.
