McClatchy Advances in May, but Circ Revenue Falls

McClatchy reported that advertising revenues for May increased 3.8% and total revenues grew 2.9% compared to the same period last year. Year-to-date, advertising and total revenues were up 3.7% and 2.8% respectively.

By category, including online, retail advertising revenue advanced 4.8%. National dropped 4.7%. Classified advertising revenue grew 5.1%. In the classified category, auto declined 7.5%. Real estate was up 15.3%. Employment rose 11.7%.

Advertising revenues in McClatchy’s California region grew 7.2%, but Minneapolis was down slightly 0.3%. The Carolinas reported ad revenue growth of 2.9% and the Northwest region increased 4.8%.

Circulation revenue for the company took at hit, down 3%.
