MEDIA AND COURTS TO TALK IN NORTH CAROLINA

Forum Will Examine Conflicts

The State Supreme Court Chief Justice in North Carolina recently established
a forum to examine the occasionally conflicting needs of reporters and the
courts, The Associated Press reports.

Chief Justice Henry Frye says the 40-member forum will consist of newspaper
and broadcast reporters, editors, and managers, court officials, lawyers, and
law enforcement. The forum emulates a similar one in the 1980s that led to
cameras being allowed into courtrooms in the Tar Heel State.

‘The courts and the press have their fair share of public criticism, and,
perhaps, we can both learn from each other how to address these concerns,’ Frye
says.
