The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association announced it will present a 2007 Media Award to “For Better or For Worse” cartoonist Lynn Johnston during its convention in Boston on Nov. 16, according to Universal Press Syndicate.
Johnston is being honored for creating a character afflicted with Aphasia, a disorder that results from damage to the brain’s language center. In her comic, that character is the grandfather, who struggles to regain his speech after a stroke.
Universal distributes “For Better or For Worse” to more than 2,000 newspapers.
