Titles Could Be Sold

MediaNews Group Inc. announced it is exploring options for its
Iowa newspaper group, which could lead to a sale, expansion of the
cluster, or strategic partnership.

The Iowa group is made up of The Daily Nonpareil in Council Bluffs,
weekday circulation 17,474; Valley News Today, weekday circulation
3,200; several paid weeklies and free papers; and controlling
interest in a publication serving 23 counties in southwest Iowa.

William Dean Singleton, president and CEO of MediaNews Group, said
while the company has been pleased with the group’s growth, its
ability to make acquisitions in the region has been limited.

‘As a result of this initiative, we hope to either find new partners,
make additional purchases or find a buyer for these properties who
has the long range commitment and vision to build upon the growth
already achieved in this market,’ he said in a statement.

Broker Dirks, Van Essen & Murray has been engaged to consult in the
review.

Denver-based MediaNews is the seventh biggest U.S. newspaper group
in terms of daily circulation.
