The trial date for a federal lawsuit against MediaNews Group Inc., Hearst Corporation, and several other newspaper organizations has been pushed back to April 30, 2007 from its original date in February, reported the Contra Costa Times of Walnut Creek, Calif., Wednesday.
The lawsuit, filed by realty executive Clinton Reilly, is an attempt to prevent and break up a transaction in which Denver-based MediaNews acquired several Bay Area publications, making it the owner of almost all Bay Area dailies except for the Hearst-owned, San Francisco Chronicle, said the Times. According to Reilly?s lawsuit, a financial partnership between Hearst and MediaNews in this acquisition suggests a monopoly, reported the Times.
The lawsuit made news last month as well, as several documents involved were ordered to be kept sealed by a U.S. District Court Judge.
