MerlinOne, Quincy, Mass., will begin offering its picture desk and digital asset management system as a hosted service in order to offer newspaper publishers “significant cost savings” by outsourcing their digital image storage and management, according to the company.
MerlinOne also will offer its Trax assignment and workflow system as a hosted service. Trax manages photo, video, story, audio, graphics, scanning and research assignments, and integrates with Merlin to add rights management, scheduling, contact information and more into the work process.
The arrangement enables news organizations to make the application available to users “without the capital burden of continuous server and storage upgrades, without IT department workload, and with totally predictable, low costs,” MerlinOne President and CEO David Tenenbaum said in a statement.
MerlinOne also is introducing workflow enhancements to its video search, including the ability to set “in” and “out” points and the instant launch of a video clip in a non-linear editor.
