Knight Ridder Digital of San Jose, Calif., announced Tuesday that Miami.com will become Herald.com as its new primary brand.
The name change is part of Knight Ridder’s move to turn some control of its Web sites back over to the local newspapers — in this case, The Miami Herald.
Miami.com and Broward.com, local portals for South Florida, will be incorporated into Herald.com.
Earlier this year, Knight Ridder abandoned DFW.com in favor of the newspaper-named Star-Telegram.com. But in other markets, the newspaper Web sites will retain their city identity. Examples include KansasCity.com and TwinCities.com.
In a statement, Knight Ridder said, “Looking to 2003, Knight Ridder sites and newspapers will continue to work together locally to make decisions that best serve their audiences.”
