The Daily News in Middlesboro is cutting Monday publication from its six-day schedule, citing the downturn in the economy and the industry.
Publisher Tom Spargur says the change for the southeastern Kentucky newspaper is to try to avoid passing large price increases on to advertisers and subscribers.
He announced Tuesday that the change would start next week, when the paper will begin publishing Tuesday through Saturday. Spargur says the newspaper industry is going through changes never before seen.
Managing Editor Brandy Calvert says the Daily News will celebrate a century of publication next year. It is owned by Heartland Publications.
