A subsidiary of Milwaukee’s Journal Communications shut down several weekly newspapers Tuesday, resulting in the elimination of 60 jobs, according to a report in Wednesday’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The advertising recession was blamed.
The Add Inc. division is closing seven weeklies serving Appleton and surrounding communities. The 60 lost jobs include some part-time positions, according to the Journal Sentinel. The combined circulation of the papers was 33,000.
One of the papers, The Times of Kaukauna, Sherwood, Buchanan, and Vandenbroek, was established in 1880. The other titles were started by Add Inc. in 1999.
Add Inc. will continue to publish three shoppers.
