The Star Tribune in Minneapolis is outsourcing its customer service calls to Press-One, the Fort Collins, Colo.-based company said Thursday.
Press-One will handle all calls and correspondence related to home delivery and billing for the Star Tribune. Press-One said it beat out off-shore call centers in winning the contract.
“It was a tough review process as we were competing with several off-shore companies — but to the Star Tribune’s credit, they believed in the long term value and immediate benefit received in keeping their customer service calls in the United States,” Press-One President Andy Orr said in a statement. “Keep in mind that this is one of the most storied of all Midwestern newspapers. It would have been a shame to see their calls being handled in some faraway land.”
Because of the Star Tribune deal, Press-One said it will hire people for about 20 full-time equivalent positions at its headquarters in the Opera Galleria in Fort Collins.
Press-One’s clients include USA Today and The New York Times.
