More Than 40 King Features Cartoonists Are Doing Earth Day Comics

Forty-five King Features cartoonists are doing Earth Day-themed comics Tuesday, the syndicate announced Monday afternoon.

The cartoons address Earth Day in a number of ways, ranging from funny to very serious.

King also announced that the eco-oriented from Hearst Magazines Digital Media is the newest client for “Arctic Circle” by Alex Hallatt, whose comic stars three penguins who move to the North Pole from Antarctica to start a new life. will also showcase all the Earth Day-themed comics as part of its Earth Day offerings.

Hearst Corp. is the parent of King.

Syndicate President T.R. “Rocky” Shepard III — who noted that the 2006-opened Hearst Tower in Manhattan is a “green” office building — said “we are just delighted that so many of our cartoonists have created such a fun and informative project.”

King Comics Editor Brendan Burford added: “While the funny pages are about making people laugh, they have also historically been a forum for social expression.”

Participating comics include “The Amazing Spider-Man,” “Arctic Circle,” “Baby Blues,” “Barney Google and Snuffy Smith,” “Beetle Bailey,” “Between Friends,” “Bizarro,” “Blondie,” “The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee,” “Crock,” “Curtis,” “Dennis the Menace,” and “The Family Circus.”

Also: “Funky Winkerbean,” “Hagar the Horrible,” “Hi & Lois,” “Judge Parker,” “A Lawyer, A Doctor and A Cop,” “The Lockhorns,” “Mandrake the Magician,” “Mark Trail,” “Mallard Fillmore,” “Marvin,” “Mary Worth,” “Mother Goose & Grimm,” “Mutts,” “My Cage,” and “Ollie and Quentin.”
