Morris Publishing Group announced Tuesday that it is buying four weekly papers in Georgia and South Carolina from Community Newspapers Inc.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Included in the sale are the 6,600-circulation Barnwell (S.C.) People-Sentinel; the 5,000-circulation Hampton County (S.C.) Guardian; the 4,100-circulation Edgefield (S.C.) Citizen News; and the 3,200-circulation Sylvania (Ga.) Telephone.
Santa Fe, New Mexico-based Dirks, Van Essen & Murray represented Community Newspapers Inc. in the transaction.
“These newspapers are located in our Augusta and Savannah market areas and are a great fit for us,” Morris President and CEO William S. Morris IV said in a statement.
Augusta, Ga.-based Morris Publishing Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of the privately held Morris Communications Co., publishes the dailies Augusta Chronicle and Savannah Morning News in Georgia, as well as 27 other dailies around the nation.
