Morris Publications, the newspaper arm of Morris Communications, announced Q3 total advertising revenues up 7.5% over the same period last year.
The company benefited from strong Q3 gains in the national category, which increased 23.1% year-over-year, or 15.1% year-to-date. Retail advertising revenues rose 6.1% year-over-year, or 2.5% year-to-date. Classified advertising revenues were up 6.8% year-over-year, or 7.2% year-to-date.
Circulation revenues took a slight hit with a decline of 2.3% for over Q3 last year, or 1.6% decrease year-to-date.
Total operating expenses increased 4.3% to $93.5 million due to rising costs in compensation, up 2.3%; health and benefits, up 7.6%; and newsprint, up 12.9%.
