A North Carolina newspaper is cutting production to three days a week amid a tough economic market.
The Messenger of Mount Airy will shift from printing five days a week to publishing on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It also will change to a tabloid-size paper.
The free, home-delivered newspaper was first published in July 2007. The changes took effect this month.
Editor Rebel Good tells the Winston-Salem Journal the decision is a “reflection of the newspaper industry.” He said all businesses are making tough choices, “and these are the choices that we made that we believe will best fit the needs of readers and advertisers in Surry County.”
Good said circulation is about 11,000 on Wednesdays and Fridays, and jumps to about 20,000 on Sunday.
