Tammy Pearson, managing editor of the Chronicle-Tribune in Marion since 2003, has been named executive editor at The Star Press in Muncie, a sister Gannett paper.
Star Press publisher Juli Metzger announced Pearson’s appointment Monday.
Pearson, a 1991 Ball State University graduate, had worked as reporter, graphic artist, designer and editor at the Chronicle-Tribune. She will succeed Evan Miller, who will take a new position as director of strategic planning and audience development for The Star Press.
“Tammy Pearson is the kind of journalist every newsroom wants — experienced, enthusiastic and passionate about her craft,” said Metzger, who also is publisher of the Chronicle-Tribune and worked with Pearson there. “She understands the importance of newspapers connecting with their communities.”
Metzger said Miller led The Star Press’s digital efforts, helping launch neighborhood sites and increasing traffic to the newspaper’s Web site. In his new role, he will work to bridge different departments to improve The Star Press.
Pearson said changes in the newspaper industry – including an emphasis on online readership — were challenging but did not change journalists’ basic mission.
“Journalism is a service,” Pearson said. “Fundamentally, what we’re trying to accomplish as a team day in and day out is the same. What is different is the storytelling possibilities available to tell these rich stories.”
