Murdoch Scandal Accounted For 53% of Links on Twitter, But Only 6% of Mainstream Coverage

PEJ’s weekly tracking found a significant difference in what was most covered last week by blogs, on Twitter and in traditional newspaper and broadcast media. On Twitter, about half of all links shared were related to Rupert Murdoch’s News International scandal. On blogs, the Iraq War accounted for one-quarter of all coverage. And on traditional media — including cable and network TV — the economy and deficit negotiations accounted for one-quarter of all coverage, though Casey Anthony was the top newsmaker.
