‘Muscatine Journal’ Publisher Blackman to Retire

The Muscatine (Iowa) Journal reported July 14 that its publisher, Bob Blackman, who began his newspaper career nearly 40 years ago, is retiring.

Blackman, 62, told the Journal he would retire Sept. 30, a year after taking the helm at the Lee Enterprises paper.

In a career that began in 1972 as a McCook (Neb.) Daily Gazette advertising sales representative, Blackman held management positions at newspapers in Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas. He joined Lee Enterprises in 1984 as retail advertising manager for its flagship Quad-City Times, Davenport, Iowa.
