Cartoonist Patrick McDonnell has created two comics to help The Humane Society of the United States spread the word about “Spay Day,” which takes place Feb. 27.
The strips will run Feb. 26 and 27 in McDonnell’s “Mutts” comic, which is syndicated by King Features.
“Spay Day” promotes the spaying and neutering of cats and dogs to prevent animal overpopulation, which can lead to the euthanizing of many homeless pets.
Also, the “Mutts” Web site is publicizing “Have a Heart for Chained Dogs Week,” Feb. 7-14. On the 14th, the nonprofit Dogs Deserve Better organization is hoping to deliver 8,000 Valentines and treat coupons to chained and penned dogs (along with educational material for their owners).
