‘N.Y. Times’ Names New National Editor

The New York Times has appointed Suzanne Daley as national editor. Previously, she was the education editor.

Daley, 48, replaces Jim Roberts, who was national editor for three years. He will continue to work at the paper in a senior capacity.

Daley joined the Times in 1978 and became a reporter for the metropolitan desk in 1982. She became the deputy metropolitan editor in 1994 and then the South African bureau chief in 1995. Four years later she was appointed Paris bureau chief. Daley was also part of the team that planned the new Thursday Style section.
