Members of Congress attending the Republican and Democratic National Conventions will get the opportunity to access the Internet, courtesy of computers provided by the Newspaper Association of America.
NAA will sponsor the computers in special “cloakrooms” off the convention floor. “We hope that members of Congress and other delegates will leave the convention with a better understanding of the editorial and commercial value of online newspapers,” said Paul J. Boyle, NAA senior vice president for public policy, in a letter to NAA New Media Federation members.
The computers will carry splash pages for NAA’s NewsVoyager.com, a directory of newspaper Web sites.
NAA also invites newspapers to use the cloakrooms to conduct online chats with members of Congress.
