Interactive Content Becomes More Accessible
NBC Internet Inc. launched its broadband portal NBCi.com ( http://www.nbci.com)
yesterday featuring multimedia content, communication, and navigation.
The new portal will be accessible for free by almost 50% of DSL home subscribers
in the U.S., according to NBC. Some cable service providers will also carry the
service. Internet users with 128 kilobits per second connections or higher can
access the site. Users need a T1, ISDN, DSL, or cable modem connection.
NBCi has partnered with 23 content providers to cover entertainment, news, finance,
sports, games, computing, shopping, and travel. Content providers include APBNews.com,
Bloomberg.com, MSNBC.com, The History Channel, RollingStone.com, and FasTV.com.
To handle its interactive content, NBCi entered an agreement with Macromedia that makes
Macromedia Flash the preferred media type both for content and advertising on NBCi.com.
